Guide Relief Program

Supporting fishing guides on and off the water

The Guide Relief Program was created during the global COVID-19 crisis to support Montana’s fishing guides, fly and conventional, by providing critical information and resources regarding unemployment, grants and loans, and financial relief. In doing so, we realized there was no social safety net in place for guides and no organization that provided access to even the basic benefits traditionally offered by employers. With the future in mind, the Guide Relief Program will continue working to ensure a better future for fishing guides by supporting them on and off the water.

By supporting the Guide Relief Program (GRP), you can help us fulfill our charitable mission of supporting the physical and mental health of fishing guides and conserving our natural resources.

GRP also acknowledges that fishing guides may need access to additional resources. That is why GRP has partnered with the GRP Association – a professional association designed specifically for you – the professional fishing guide. The GRP Association improves the common business interests of the guide community.  Among other activities, the GRP Association connects its guide members to benefits and services not previously offered to the guide community, including guide liability insurance, vision and dental discounts, free telehealth, roadside assistance, pet care, and more. For the guide who is looking for extra protection, the GRP Association has partnered with Cross Current Insurance to offer accident insurance, disability income protection and life insurance. Currently, membership in the GRP Association is available only to Montana guides, however, we encourage you to sign up to receive updates about when our services may expand to your region.

If you’re reading this, it is likely that you have at one time interacted with a fishing guide. Perhaps you’re a client, a family member, or one of your best buds is a guide. It could be you are in the industry – working for a manufacturer, as a rep, as an outfitter, or at a shop. Regardless of your connection to the fishing guide community, you know how hard-working these men and women are. During the season, 12- to 16-hour days are the norm, with a very rare day off. Guiding is a hard job, but with your support, the Guide Relief Program will work to keep our fishing guides healthy and to support them on and off the water.
